Leaders from the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) have criticized the Indian central government over delays in implementing the women’s reservation law, also known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.

CPI(M) leader Hannan Mollah argued that linking the implementation of the bill to delimitation is a “conspiracy to mislead the public” and expressed concern that delimitation could negatively affect the parliamentary structure.

Following these criticisms, CPI leader Annie Raja accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of hesitating to implement the law, suggesting a lack of belief in equal rights for women. Raja emphasized that because the law was passed in 2023, the focus should remain on its execution. Additionally, CPI National General Secretary D. Raja raised concerns regarding a lack of clarity from the government concerning the adjournment of both houses of Parliament.
