A political controversy has emerged in India following an incident involving Flydubai pilot Captain Smit Machchhar. Machchhar is credited with preventing a major aviation disaster after his co-pilot allegedly attacked him in the cockpit of flight FZ1073, which was traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. During the incident, passengers reportedly entered the cockpit and subdued the co-pilot, allowing the aircraft to land safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

Members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and various Union Ministers have criticized the Indian National Congress, specifically naming Rahul Gandhi and the Gandhi family, for their perceived silence regarding the pilot’s actions. BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi accused the opposition of prioritizing ‘vote-bank politics’ over national pride, while Minister G. Kishan Reddy compared Machchhar’s bravery to the prevention of a ‘9/11-style attack’.

In response, Congress MP Imran Masood accused the BJP of attempting to turn the incident into a political ‘event’, though he noted that the party frequently politicizes significant occurrences.
