Indian railway services are experiencing widespread disruptions, cancellations, and diversions due to various construction and maintenance projects across multiple regions. In late August and early September, maintenance and redevelopment work caused cancellations on routes between Kanpur Central and Delhi, as well as service changes at Faridabad Railway Station. These works, affecting routes such as the Palwal-Ghaziabad and New Delhi-Palwal EMU, included platform reassignments and temporary stops for express trains like the Malwa Express. By late September, large-scale disruptions expanded to the Bihar and Jharkhand regions. Construction involving the doubling of the Rajendra Pul station rail bridge and interlocking work at Mugma station led to the cancellation or diversion of dozens of trains. Affected services include the Howrah-Bikaner Express, Mithilanchal Express, and several MEMU services, with some long-distance trains being rerouted through alternative paths such as Kiul-Gaya-Grand Chord. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-19: Indian Railways announces mass train cancellations in Bihar and Jharkhand Over 50 trains will be cancelled or diverted in Bihar and Jharkhand from September 21 to October 4 due to major railway construction and interlocking work in the Danapur and Sonpur divisions. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/indian-railways-announces-mass-train-cancellations-in-bihar-and-jharkhand ### 2026-08-29: Railway services face cancellations and disruptions due to construction Railway services face disruptions due to maintenance and construction.
