Several Indian state cabinets have approved reservation policies to provide employment for former Agniveers in state uniformed services. In Maharashtra, the cabinet approved a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers across Group-C uniformed posts, including police, fire services, coastal security, and correctional security. The policy allows for direct recruitment without competitive examinations or fresh training, with Indian Navy veterans being integrated into the state’s coastal security wing. In Madhya Pradesh, a 20 per cent horizontal reservation was approved for five specific roles: police constable, Special Armed Force (SAF) jawan, jail guard, forest guard, and excise constable. Assam has also implemented a 12 per cent reservation for native former Agniveers across 11 recruitment categories, covering departments such as the police, SDRF, fire and emergency services, and the excise department. Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh have recently expanded these benefits. In Gujarat, Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi announced that former Agniveers will be exempted from recruitment examinations for police positions, following previous relaxations in age limits and physical tests. A 20 per cent reservation has also been established for roles within the police, prison, and forest departments. In Uttar Pradesh, the state cabinet approved a 20 per cent reservation for former Agniveers across the police, forest, prison, and transport departments. The state is increasing the maximum age limit for these recruits from 25 to 28 years. While eligible candidates may receive exemptions from written examinations and physical efficiency tests, they must still undergo medical examinations according to departmental rules. As the first batch of the Agnipath Scheme nears the end of their four-year tenure, additional central and financial benefits have been detailed. Departing personnel will receive a tax-free ‘Seva Nidhi’ package, estimated to be between ₹10.04 lakh and ₹11.71 lakh, alongside skill certificates and access to priority sector lending for startups.
