Indian state authorities in Haryana and Punjab are intensifying efforts to repatriate and extradite gangsters operating from foreign countries.

In Haryana, the Special Task Force (STF) has repatriated 27 criminals via deportation or extradition since August 2023. To combat organized crime, the STF is utilizing biometrics, fingerprint evidence, and the tracking of cryptocurrency and USDT channels. Authorities have issued 144 Look-Out Circulars, 54 Red Corner Notices, and 53 Interpol References, while also cancelling 93 passports. The STF is currently considering a USD 10,000 reward for information leading to the capture of four wanted criminals hiding overseas.

In Punjab, the government has established the ‘Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell’ (OFTEC) to pursue fugitives across borders. Within seven months of its operation, the OFTEC has successfully brought 10 wanted fugitives back to India, with 21 additional extradition proposals currently pending with the central government.
