# Indigenous and rural teacher training in Brazil

Federal universities in northern Brazil continue to launch specialized educational programs targeting indigenous and rural communities. In Rondônia, the Federal University of Rondônia (UNIR) has opened enrollment for its ‘Licenciatura em Educação Básica Intercultural’ undergraduate program, which offers specializations in Intercultural Fundamental Education and Intercultural School Management and Sciences.

In Roraima, the Federal University of Roraima (UFRR) is conducting a selection process for its ‘Escola da Terra: Currículo e Prática Pedagógica em Turmas Multisseriadas’ program. This initiative provides 60 free vacancies for professionals in rural, indigenous, and riverside territories, including affirmative action for Black, indigenous, and people with disabilities.

Broadening the scope of academic development, the Instituto Federal de São Paulo (IFSP) has joined RedAES (Rede de Apoio ao Ensino Superior) to promote professional development in higher education. Recent and upcoming activities include a webinar on August 27, 2026, titled ‘A formação pedagógica continuada do docente universitário: contribuições no campo da Pedagogia Universitária’, featuring Unesp experts. 

Further initiatives through IFSP include the Amplifica program, which features an August 19 lecture on anti-racist education focusing on how curricula and history can promote equity. Additionally, the IV International Symposium of Education (IV SINTE), organized with ACECTS, is scheduled for October 22–24, 2026, to explore the role of children as historical and social subjects.

At the national level, the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) is facilitating the ProLEEI program, offering up to 154,000 spots for continuous training in early childhood education. Regional planning also continues, with Fortaleza utilizing a guide for its 2026–2036 Municipal Education Plan and Entrerriense engaging in its Municipal Decennial Education Plan.
