The assault occurred in September, following reports that suspects offered the teenager alcoholic beverages before the attack. The investigation was prompted by videos of the violence circulating on WhatsApp, reaching cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Brasília. In the recordings, perpetrators reportedly referred to the sexual violence as a form of “cobrança” (collection or retribution), though the specific motivation remains unclear. As of the latest reports, five men aged between 22 and 50 have been identified as suspects. Two individuals have been arrested, while three others remain at large. The Amazonas State Court has classified the case under multiple statutes, including rape and the production and dissemination of explicit images involving minors. The National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) is monitoring the situation. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: Amazonas authorities investigate gang rape of 15-year-old Indigenous girl Five men are being investigated for the gang rape of a 15-year-old Indigenous girl in Amazonas, Brazil, after the crime was recorded and shared on messaging apps. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/amazonas-authorities-investigate-gang-rape-of-15-year-old-indigenous-girl ### 2026-10-08: Amazonas authorities seek five suspects in indigenous teen gang rape Police in Amazonas, Brazil, are searching for five men suspected of the gang rape of a 15-year-old indigenous girl in Itamarati following the circulation of videos of the assault. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/amazonas-authorities-seek-five-suspects-in-indigenous-teen-gang-rape --- Cite as: Indigenous girl gang rape investigation in Amazonas.
