Indonesia is focusing on expanding its digital economy through increased e-commerce activity and the rise of video commerce. The government has set a transaction target of Rp40 trillion (approximately US$2.1 billion) for the 2026 National Online Shopping Day (Harbolnas), scheduled for December 10–16, 2026. This represents a projected 10 percent increase over the Rp36.4 trillion recorded in 2025.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the event serves as a strategic instrument to stimulate the national economy during the fourth quarter of 2026, aiming for a 6 percent growth rate to establish a foundation for 2027. This target is supported by a digital economy that reached approximately US$100 billion in 2025 and a surge in video commerce transactions, which grew by nearly 90 percent to 2.6 billion.

Minister of Trade Budi Santoso noted that Harbolnas is a collaborative effort between the government and the Indonesian E-commerce Association (IdEA). The initiative is designed to boost consumer purchasing power and encourage the use of local products, which accounted for 45 percent of transactions in the previous year.
