Indonesian officials and political leaders are advocating for the integration of disaster resilience into national development planning and governance. Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto has called for a shift toward “resilience by design,” arguing that spatial planning and budgeting must utilize regional risk data to reduce vulnerability. PKS President Almuzzammil Yusuf further proposed a three-step agenda focusing on family empowerment, combating “information disasters,” and ensuring infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals, is built to withstand landslides, floods, tsunamis, and eruptions.

Concurrently, the country is managing several active natural disasters and recovery operations. In Nusa Tenggara Timur, earthquake activity has resulted in 136 deaths and damage to over 102,000 homes. In Sumatra, the Ministry of Public Works has allocated Rp1.156 trillion for 2027 to restore strategic infrastructure in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Other regional challenges include flooding in Deliserdang, drought and forest fires in South Sulawesi, and reports of intentional land burning in Jambi. In response, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is conducting tsunami preparedness assessments along the Banten coast and working to improve protection for vulnerable groups.
