The government has set a target to reach between 5.01 and 5.32 million green workers by 2029, driven by the rise of renewable energy and electric vehicles. To achieve this, the Manpower Ministry is prioritizing vocational training in specialized areas such as solar power installation and electric vehicle maintenance, allocating approximately US$96 million to train 270,000 workers this year. As the transition progresses, leaders are addressing secondary challenges regarding financing and industrial reskilling. In Central Java, officials noted that small and medium industries face significant barriers due to high initial investment costs and limited collateral, prompting calls for innovative green financing schemes. Simultaneously, industry executives have emphasized that the shift toward a low-carbon economy requires large-scale reskilling in sectors such as engineering, agriculture, and finance to master competencies like carbon management and energy efficiency. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: Indonesia addresses green economy financing and workforce needs Indonesian officials and industry leaders are tackling green economy transitions by seeking better financing for SMEs and prioritizing workforce reskilling for low-carbon technologies. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/indonesia-addresses-green-economy-financing-and-workforce-needs ### 2026-09-21: Indonesia targets 5 million green jobs by 2029 Indonesia aims to develop over 5 million green workers by 2029 to support the transition to electric vehicles and renewable energy, focusing on specialized vocational training and industry alignment. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/indonesia-targets-5-million-green-jobs-by-2029 --- Cite as: Indonesia green economy transition and workforce development.
