PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir has emphasized the need to develop squad depth, aiming to create multiple groups of players with comparable quality to manage intense schedules and injuries. The association intends to follow a model similar to Japan’s by balancing domestic talent with players competing in European leagues. As the team prepares to enter the Asian zone qualification process directly at the second round, there is a growing focus on integrating diaspora players. Under head coach John Herdman, the team is looking at eligible candidates such as Brighton defender Pascal Struijk to bolster the squad, pending necessary administrative and citizenship procedures. The official drawing for the qualification rounds is scheduled for December 15, 2026. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-17: Indonesia national team to enter 2030 World Cup qualifiers at second round Indonesia's national football team will enter the 2030 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers at the second round, with plans to strengthen the squad using diaspora talents like Pascal Struijk. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/indonesia-national-team-to-enter-2030-world-cup-qualifiers-at-second-round ### 2026-10-11: Indonesia PSSI targets squad depth for 2030 World Cup PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir aims to build three high-quality player groups for the Indonesia national team to ensure squad depth for the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. 22 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/persib-bandung-and-dewa-united-draw-2-2-in-super-league-match --- Cite as: Indonesia national football team World Cup preparations.
