In July 2026 the Magetan District Health Office reported that its Action to Prevent Stunting (ACS) programme cut the number of stunted children in a pilot village from 43 to 23 between 2022 and 2023. The district’s overall stunting prevalence fell from 30.2 % in the 2018 national survey to 10.4 % in the 2024 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey, prompting the expansion of ACS to all 22 puskesmas in Magetan and new referral agreements with regional hospitals, alongside intensified health‑worker training.

A week later, the Bantul Regency health department announced that its stunting rate continued to decline, reaching 8.3 % in February 2026 down from 9.05 % in August 2025. Officials highlighted household smoking exposure as the leading risk factor and noted that economic hardship also contributed. The July 2026 Stunting Forum resulted in a Commitment Statement to deepen cross‑sectoral coordination among local governments, health services, businesses, academia and communities. Bantul’s prevalence dropped from 19.1 % in 2021 to 14.9 % in 2022, moving the region toward Indonesia’s national target of 14 % by 2024.

Together the snapshots illustrate a broader Indonesian push to curb child stunting through region‑specific interventions, expanded health networks, and multi‑stakeholder collaboration, while also identifying persistent risk factors such as tobacco exposure and poverty.
