In mid-October 2026, the ministry advocated for strengthening the leadership of rural women to combat climate change, emphasizing the need for a Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) approach to address vulnerabilities like food insecurity and limited resource access. By late October 2026, the ministry reported progress in broader empowerment metrics, including a reduction in the gender wage gap and an increase in women holding managerial positions. Child protection indicators also showed improvement, with rising protection indices and declining rates of child marriage and child labor. Despite these gains, the government noted gaps in the distribution of protection services, as several provinces and regencies still lack Regional Technical Implementation Units for the Protection of Women and Children. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-27: Indonesia reports progress in women and child protection services Indonesia's Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection reports improved gender wage equality and child protection indices, though 66 regions still lack dedicated protection units. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/indonesia-reports-progress-in-women-and-child-protection-services ### 2026-10-17: Indonesia Ministry promotes rural women's leadership in climate action Indonesia's Ministry of Women's Empowerment is pushing for rural women to lead climate action through food security and green economy initiatives to ensure inclusive and sustainable development. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/indonesia-ministry-promotes-rural-womens-leadership-in-climate-action --- Cite as: Indonesia women and child empowerment initiatives.
