Indonesia has initiated multiple efforts to combat online gambling through administrative discipline and inter-agency law enforcement cooperation.

In early October, the Ministry of Social Affairs imposed disciplinary sanctions on hundreds of employees at central and regional levels. Following investigations by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), which identified over 1,900 suspected participants, the Ministry applied varying penalties. These included honorable termination for certain contract workers and demotions or dismissals for civil servants, depending on the severity of the violations.

By late October, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) and the National Police (Polri) formalized plans to strengthen collaboration to address digital crimes. During a meeting at the Polri headquarters in Jakarta, Police Chief Suyudi Ario Seto and Minister Meutya Hafid discussed accelerating the handling of public complaints regarding online scams, data trading, online gambling, pornography, bullying, misinformation, and hoaxes.

Minister Hafid emphasized that Komdigi cannot address these issues alone, noting that a combination of preventive measures and law enforcement is essential. A primary focus of this strengthened synergy is the eradication of cross-border online gambling networks. Police Chief Suyudi highlighted the need for rapid response to digital crimes that cause public unrest, such as love scams and online gambling, while noting that technological developments must be balanced with improved digital literacy and stronger regulations.
