The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission III continues its legislative oversight regarding the Asset Seizure Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset). Building on previous concerns regarding the ‘abuse of power’ by law enforcement, legislator Rikwanto reported that the bill is currently in the stage of gathering public input. To date, the commission has received over 60 submissions from academics, legal practitioners, and students.

Key discussions remain focused on ensuring the effective recovery of criminal assets while establishing legal protections for third parties acting in good faith. The commission continues to evaluate whether to utilize the existing Asset Recovery Agency within the Prosecutor’s Office or establish a new supervisory body to prevent the mechanism from being used against political opponents or critics.

In a separate legislative development, the DPR is also advancing the Traffic and Road and Transportation Bill (RUU LLAJ). Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi aims to conclude discussions by the end of 2026, with the law expected to take effect in 2027. Proposed changes include regulating state revenue from digital-based transportation platforms, which support between 2 and 4 million drivers, and the potential addition of three ministries to oversee digital platforms, safety management, and traffic education.
