Officials suspect these commodities were being diverted to the domestic market, violating import regulations. Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono stated the seizure aims to protect local farmers and maintain market stability, estimating the action prevented potential state financial losses of approximately Rp405.8 billion.

In response to the enforcement, legal counsel for PT Baramuda Bahari and PT Megamarine Pride has called for transparency and legal certainty. While not contesting the government’s oversight authority, the companies have questioned the proportionality of the sealing measures and requested clarification on the specific legal basis for the action, citing concerns regarding the economic impact on workers and local supply chains.
