In late July 2026, Indonesian public‑university students continued their Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) community‑service programmes across the archipelago.

On 26 July, a team from Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga in Yogyakarta spent a week in Way Asih Village, Maluku Tengah, conducting Qur’an recitations, Arabic lessons and other dawah activities to energise the local mosque. A UIN Walisongo Semarang group partnered with the village government of Sendang Dawuhan in Central Java to plant 80 coconut seedlings along a rice‑field road, citing greening, food security and long‑term environmental benefits.

Two days later, reporting highlighted additional Walisongo projects. In Gemuhblanten, Kendal Regency, students used a theodolite to verify the Qibla direction of Masjid Al‑Huda, providing the first scientific measurement of the mosque’s orientation. The same group also assisted a Jerukgulung‑village stall at the Demak Regency tourism festival, promoting local micro‑, small‑ and medium‑enterprise (UMKM) products.

By 28 July, the Qibla verification was confirmed by mosque caretaker Maryono, and festival organiser Sasa reiterated the aim of bolstering UMKM support. On 31 July, the Walisongo team launched a “UMKM Go Digital” programme in Desa Galih, Kendal, helping vendors register on Google Maps, adopt QRIS digital payments and receive new branding. In parallel, volunteers from Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau taught residents of Kampung Tuah Indrapura how to recycle used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles, creating a clean‑up solution and a modest income source. These actions illustrate the expanding scope of KKN work, linking religious upkeep, environmental planting, scientific verification, digital commerce and waste‑recycling initiatives across multiple Indonesian villages.
