Sources: 4. Developments: 2. The industrial automation sector is experiencing technological growth and a shift toward diverse market applications. In the United States, North American robot orders saw a significant increase in 2025, with non-automotive sectors such as food, life sciences, and semiconductors now representing 55.5% of the market. This expansion has increased the demand for standardized safety protocols, highlighted by Detroit’s upcoming hosting of the International Robot Safety Conference. Technological discussions have also focused on the challenges of embodied artificial intelligence. While digital intelligence has advanced through deep learning, physical manipulation remains difficult due to the complexity of sensor streams, a challenge known as the Moravec paradox. Current research is utilizing reinforcement and imitation learning to address these issues. Additionally, the industry is promoting software innovation through initiatives like the ‘automation app award 2027’, which seeks market-ready applications in robotics, engineering, and AI-driven automation. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-12: Embodied AI and industrial automation trends highlighted Experts discuss the challenges of embodied AI and physical robotics, while the automation industry prepares for the 2027 automation app award to recognize innovative industrial software solutions. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/embodied-ai-and-industrial-automation-trends-highlighted ### 2026-09-28: Industrial automation expands as Detroit prepares for 2026 robot safety conference Industrial automation is expanding, with RoboTape recognized as an industry icon and Detroit set to host the 2026 International Robot Safety Conference amid rising North American robot orders. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/industrial-automation-expands-as-detroit-prepares-for-2026-robot-safety-conference --- Cite as: Industrial automation and robotics technological trends.
