# Industrial explosion in Shiga Prefecture

On October 5, 2026, an explosion occurred at the Toray Shiga Works in Sonoyama 1-chome, Otsu, Shiga Prefecture. 

Three individuals were transported to the hospital following the blast: a man in his 30s and two women in their 40s and 60s. The man sustained serious injuries, including a fractured spine, while the two women reportedly suffered no injuries. At the time of the incident, the man was performing machine maintenance in a room adjacent to the blast site. 

Police and fire departments are investigating the cause of the explosion through scene examinations and employee interviews.
