Two separate fatal industrial accidents involving maintenance workers have been reported in Brazil.

In mid-August, a 40-year-old mechanic, Carlos Roberto Nazareno, died at the Nova Platina Bioenergia sugar mill in Platina. The accident occurred when Nazareno attempted to retrieve a fallen sledgehammer from a moving feeder conveyor belt, resulting in him being pulled into the machinery and crushed by a milling roller.

On August 23, a second fatality occurred at the Mina do Sossego copper mine in Canaã dos Carajás. Iago Lima, a 26-year-old maintenance inspector, was struck in the torso when a lifting sling snapped during corrective maintenance on an excavator. While Lima was transported to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
