The province of Trapani, Italy, has initiated several infrastructure projects aimed at modernizing provincial roads and improving regional connectivity.

In early August 2026, a 250-metre segment of the SP21 road was closed to facilitate the construction of the Birgi railway station and an underpass connecting it to the Vincenzo Florio airport. This project, funded by a €5 million portion of a provincial surplus, is intended to improve airport access.

Following this, maintenance work was scheduled to begin on August 25, 2026, on the SP16 road between Bivio Lentina and San Vito Lo Capo. This €2.18 million project involves resurfacing, signage updates, and utility installations, with an expected completion date in April 2027. Salvatore Quinci, president of the Libero Consorzio Comunale di Trapani, noted that these works are part of a broader strategy to enhance safety and economic development in the region.
