Recent reports have highlighted separate instances of insurance-related crimes in Japan.

In one case, a 66-year-old former sales employee of Taiju Life Insurance was arrested for allegedly defrauding approximately 20 customers of 120 million yen. The suspect reportedly used forged company receipts to deceive elderly customers into canceling existing policies and transferring funds into her personal account for living expenses and travel.

In a separate incident, Taiwanese authorities detained a man suspected of orchestrating the murder of his wife to claim insurance payouts totaling approximately 30 million Taiwan dollars. The victim was found dead in a hotel in Yamanashi Prefecture. Following the investigation, Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission addressed concerns regarding “moral hazard” in the insurance industry.
