Following the expiration of their contracts with Inter Milan in June, defenders Matteo Darmian and Francesco Acerbi have remained without professional clubs.

Darmian previously described being a free agent as a “new and strange sensation” and noted he was working individually with a trainer to maintain fitness. While he was linked to Roma, negotiations did not result in a contract.

As of late September, Darmian has arrived in Bologna to undergo medical assessments and begin a trial period. Bologna is considering a permanent deal to provide defensive cover for right-back Emil Holm, who is expected to be sidelined for approximately four months following surgery.

Technical staff and manager Raffaele Palladino will use this period to evaluate Darmian’s physical condition and fitness levels before finalizing registration. A preliminary agreement is reportedly in place for a contract potentially running until June 2027, with an estimated annual salary between 800,000 and 1 million euros.

Francesco Acerbi remains without a club. He has been linked to several Italian sides, including Genoa, Monza, Torino, Sassuolo, Bologna, and Lazio, as well as the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. Additionally, Mattia De Sciglio continues to seek a new professional destination as a free agent.
