Indian law enforcement agencies have dismantled large-scale international cybercrime networks facilitating fraud and money laundering.

In one operation, the Gujarat CID arrested a mastermind in Assam linked to a Chinese criminal gang. This individual allegedly managed a network of 1,758 bank accounts to move approximately Rs 1,071.5 crore obtained through ‘digital arrest’ scams and other frauds. The illicit funds were reportedly converted into cryptocurrency and sent to China.

Concurrently, Ahmedabad Police disrupted an international network known as the ‘Boss Scam’ that had been operating for several years. This group provided infrastructure for cyberattacks linked to Pakistan and China by supplying thousands of SIM cards and approximately 21,000 One-Time Passwords (OTPs) to facilitate illegal money transfers. The investigation, which has seen 251 complaints across 26 Indian states, resulted in the arrest of two individuals, Imran Ali Pyaada and Injamul Mujibar Molla, in West Bengal.

During raids, police recovered devices capable of operating multiple SIM cards simultaneously and discovered the group had procured approximately 4,500 SIM cards. Investigators identified links to a call center in Islamabad, Pakistan, and noted the use of malware developed in China, with infrastructure also linked to Hong Kong. In response to these threats, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced a ₹51 lakh challenge to integrate the state’s CCTV network with AI-based automated software systems.
