The first International Muğla Ceramic Symposium was scheduled to take place from August 15 to August 30, 2026, at Karabağlar Plateau, Narlı Kahve. Organized by the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, and Menteşe Municipality, the event centered on the theme ‘Ancient Heritage: Ceramics from Ages to the Present’. 

Following the initial announcement of the event, which aimed to establish Muğla as a hub for ceramic art through workshops and artist talks, the symposium commenced with an opening ceremony. During the ceremony, Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras and Menteşe Mayor Gonca Köksal Aras performed a demonstration of the Raku firing technique. This process involved removing ceramics heated to between 900 and 1000 degrees Celsius from kilns and using materials such as stones and dried leaves to create specific glaze and metallic effects.
