The Nagaland-based film ‘Angh’, directed by Theja Rio, has achieved international recognition following its win of the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival. Set in the early 1960s and produced in the Konyak language, the film depicts a traditional leader’s struggle to maintain animistic beliefs amidst the spread of Christianity.

Due to its success at the Toronto festival, ‘Angh’ has automatically qualified for consideration in the International Feature Film category at the 2027 Academy Awards, bypassing the requirement for an official country submission.
