In Mochima National Park, Venezuela, a multidisciplinary team of marine biologists, government technicians, and environmental researchers has launched a technical contingency plan to eradicate the invasive coral Unomia stolonifera.

The eradication program, which spans the states of Sucre and Anzoátegui, utilizes various methods including manual underwater extraction, plastic shade barriers, precision mechanical tools, ultrasonic suction, and ultraviolet laser treatment. To support the initiative, the “Escuelas Azules” program has trained local fishers, boat operators, and students, involving over 400 community members in monitoring and prevention efforts. The project aims to protect native coral biodiversity, sustain commercial fisheries, and preserve the region's eco-tourism appeal.
