Horacio ‘Chacho’ Asensio, a 59-year-old hockey coach, was arrested in Mar del Plata following a judicial order from Bahía Blanca. He faces accusations of aggravated sexual abuse involving at least three adolescent players. The investigation pertains to incidents allegedly occurring between 2012 and 2013 during his tenure at Club Deportivo Monte Hermoso and his role as municipal Secretary of Sports.

Victims have provided testimonies regarding inappropriate physical contact and being forced to undress. The case was reactivated following testimonies provided in 2024. Following the arrest, the situation has sparked a national debate in Argentina concerning the statute of limitations in sexual abuse cases. Members of the national women’s field hockey team, ‘Las Leonas,’ have publicly criticized sports institutions, questioning how Asensio remained employed despite existing allegations.
