In Calabar South, the Cross River State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for an unidentified male suspect following the death of a female hotel guest on Clifford Street. 

Authorities reported that the woman and the suspect checked into the hotel on the evening of September 7, 2026, though the male guest was not properly documented. Upon discovering the woman unresponsive in her room the following morning, investigators noted “apparent marks of violence on the woman’s face and neck.”

The hotel receptionist has been taken into custody for questioning regarding admission procedures. Police are currently reviewing witness testimonies, surveillance footage, and guest registers to identify the victim and locate the suspect, who remains at large. The deceased has been moved to the General Hospital, Calabar, for forensic examination.
