Wildlife SOS, an animal welfare non-profit, is under investigation by the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department and the State Tiger Strike Force (STSF) regarding allegations of involvement in wildlife trafficking.

The probe includes a leopard poaching and skin smuggling case in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, as well as potential links to an elephant smuggling operation involving an animal moved from Nepal to Uttar Pradesh in 2022. In response to the elephant smuggling allegations, Wildlife SOS stated that the individual linked to the trade had only been briefly associated with the organization and his employment ended in 2016.

Following a Supreme Court order, the organization’s co-founder and CEO, Kartick Satyanarayan, underwent approximately 27 hours of interrogation by the STSF over three consecutive days between September 28 and September 30, 2026. Satyanarayan has maintained his innocence, suggesting the allegations may be a “conspiracy” or “misunderstanding,” while affirming that the organization is fulfilling its obligations to support the investigation.
