# iPhone smuggling attempt in Malaysia

The Melaka Royal Malaysian Customs Department intercepted an attempt to smuggle 701 refurbished iPhones at a jetty in Port Klang, Selangor. The devices, which included models ranging from iPhone 11 to iPhone 16 Pro Max, were valued at approximately RM716,184. 

Inspectors discovered the phones concealed in black plastic inside boxes on a boat arriving from Indonesia. The vessel was ostensibly delivering vegetables and was scheduled to depart with empty fiber boxes. Authorities detained 11 foreign crew members and a local man representing the shipping agent. The incident is under investigation pursuant to Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967.
