In late July 2026 the Empresa Portuaria Iquique reported that the Iquique Port handled 1,738,135 tonnes of cargo in the first half of the year, a 4% rise from the same period in 2025. Container traffic increased to 224,097 TEUs (+7%), with notable gains in automotive (+58%), project (+41%) and bulk (+17%) cargo. Exports grew 31% while imports rose modestly by 3%.

The port also processed two fish‑factory vessels, loading over 6,800 tonnes of assorted species for shipment to Europe and Africa. Officials noted that the recent El Niño event shifted fish stocks offshore, suggesting further factory‑vessel arrivals.

A follow‑up report five days later reaffirmed the cargo figures and added that the number of vessels serviced rose to 185 (+6%). Trade with Bolivia continued to decline, pulling overall container volumes from that market down 3%, while cargo destined for other markets surged 115%. Port manager Rubén Castro Hurtado highlighted operational adjustments, including expanded space for the concessionaire, to offset the Bolivian slowdown and sustain performance.
