In late August, authorities announced the arrest of 30 individuals linked to unrest in the Central Province during January 2026. These suspects were allegedly involved in the destruction of public and private property, including arson against residential homes, banks, government buildings, and mosques, as well as attacks on the railway network. By late September, security operations expanded to address what the ministry described as the dismantling of three operational cells across West Azerbaijan, Alborz, and Kerman provinces. These activities included a confrontation in Piranshahr involving a separatist operative, the arrest of an individual in Alborz accused of providing military coordinates to foreign intelligence, and the detention of a cell in Bam tasked with exploding critical infrastructure. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-20: Iran Ministry of Intelligence dismantles three terrorist cells Iran's Ministry of Intelligence announced the dismantling of three terrorist cells in West Azerbaijan, Alborz, and Kerman provinces, preventing planned assassinations and infrastructure sabotage. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/iran-ministry-of-intelligence-dismantles-three-terrorist-cells ### 2026-08-28: Iran's Ministry of Intelligence arrests 30 suspects in Central Province unrest Iran's Ministry of Intelligence has arrested 30 leaders and associates linked to property destruction and arson during the January 2026 unrest in the Central Province. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/irans-ministry-of-intelligence-arrests-30-suspects-in-central-province-unrest --- Cite as: Iranian security operations against unrest and sabotage.
