The following day, defending champion Sharlene Mawdsley suffered a muscle injury early in the 200m final, pulling up 80 meters into the race. While Adeleke's victory confirmed Ireland's berth in the event, Mawdsley's ability to compete was initially uncertain.

Mawdsley has since officially withdrawn from the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham due to a hamstring injury. Despite making progress following a previous hamstring tear, she confirmed the timing of the injury prevented her participation in the individual 400m and the women's 4x400m relay. 

As a result, Sophie Becker will be Ireland's sole representative in the women's individual 400m, while Adeleke will compete in the 200m and the 4x400m relay.
