Fatal drowning incidents involving irrigation canals have been reported in different regions of Turkey.

In Van province, a 4-year-old boy died after falling into an irrigation canal near the Muradiye Waterfall while his family was on a picnic. Following a search by family and local citizens, the child was transported to medical centers but succumbed to his injuries. A judicial investigation is ongoing.

In Şanlıurfa, a 16-year-old boy was swept away by a strong current in a canal near the Esenyayla neighborhood. After search and rescue operations involving multiple agencies and divers, his body was recovered and sent for autopsy. A judicial investigation has also been launched regarding this incident.
