The 2008 homicide of Isabella Nardoni in São Paulo remains a subject of public and legal attention. Following the convictions of her father, Alexandre Nardoni, and stepmother, Anna Carolina Jatobá, the family has dealt with the long-term social and personal impacts of the crime.

Recently, a petition filed with the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MPSP) has sought to reopen the investigation. The petition, submitted by lawyer Francisco Angelo Carbone Sobrinho, proposes an alternative version of the crime, alleging that Isabella’s grandfather, Antônio Nardoni, may have been the mastermind behind the homicide. The request also calls for inquiries into potential procedural fraud, corruption, and irregularities regarding Jatobá’s imprisonment.

Legal challenges regarding the convicts' current status have recently emerged. Isabella’s mother, Ana Carolina Oliveira, has called for the return of Alexandre Nardoni and Anna Carolina Jatobá to closed prison regimes. This follows an appeal reviewed by the Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) which alleges the convicts are not adhering to judicial restrictions of their open regime. 

The appeal, presented by the Associação do Orgulho LGBTQIAPN+, cites concerns regarding Alexandre Nardoni’s professional routine, movement during restricted hours, and the accuracy of his registered address. The STJ's Fifth Panel began analyzing the case in late August, with proceedings expected to conclude by early September. The case is under the rapporteurship of Minister Ribeiro Dantas.
