Developments: 2. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted targeted strikes against high-ranking militant leaders in the Gaza Strip despite the existence of a ceasefire. In September, an IDF drone strike in Gaza City killed Farah Hamed, a prominent commander within the Hamas Al-Qassam Brigades. Hamed, a former prisoner released in 2011, was targeted while traveling on a motorcycle in the Sheikh Ijlin neighborhood. Palestinian health officials noted that since the ceasefire declaration, casualties have continued to rise. By October, Israeli military operations expanded to include the elimination of several other commanders from both Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). In Khan Younis, the IDF reported killing Hamas commander Muad Gamal Abu Nuseira and sniper Tamer Hamaida. In Gaza City, strikes targeted PIJ members Ahmed Mahmoud Harb Ramlawi and Munir Ibrahim Masr. The IDF stated these actions were necessary to counter efforts by these groups to restore military capabilities in violation of ceasefire agreements. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-03: IDF eliminates Hamas and Islamic Jihad commanders in Gaza strikes The IDF has conducted several strikes in Gaza, killing Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad commanders in Khan Younis and Gaza City to disrupt militant capabilities and ceasefire violations. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/idf-eliminates-hamas-and-islamic-jihad-commanders-in-gaza-strikes ### 2026-09-10: Israel kills Hamas commander Farah Hamed in Gaza drone strike Israel conducted a drone strike in Gaza City killing Farah Hamed, a senior Hamas Al-Qassam Brigades commander and former prisoner released in the 2011 Gilad Shalit exchange. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/israel-kills-hamas-commander-farah-hamed-in-gaza-drone-strike --- Cite as: Israel-Hamas military conflict in Gaza.
