Military activity in southern Lebanon has experienced significant fluctuations. While a framework agreement signed in Washington on 26 June aimed to outline the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the disarmament of Hezbollah, UNIFIL has reported intense kinetic operations along the border.

Between 7 and 9 August 2026, UNIFIL recorded a surge in Israeli military activity, including approximately 455 projectiles fired into Lebanese territory. This period saw a single-day peak of 229 projectiles. UNIFIL also documented 97 airspace violations involving drones, helicopters, and fighter jets, as well as Israeli naval movements in Lebanese waters and tank fire near UN positions.

These actions are cited as violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Despite reports of a drop in certain types of kinetic activity following the framework agreement, Israeli strikes have continued almost daily, causing residents to flee the region.
