Sources: 4. Developments: 2. Israeli President Isaac Herzog has engaged in high-level diplomatic outreach, characterizing various international leaders as key allies for Israel. In September, Herzog described India as a ‘true friend of Israel’ following holiday greetings for Rosh Hashanah from Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The leaders exchanged messages of peace and prosperity via social media. By October, Herzog shifted focus to the United States, describing Donald Trump as Israel’s ‘number one friend’ during an appearance with the Axel Springer Global Reporters Network. This statement was noted as an effort to downplay tensions regarding Middle East conflicts and Iran. The sentiment mirrors previous remarks by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, though Herzog’s comments come amid underlying friction involving past criticisms from Trump and JD Vance, as well as disagreements regarding the administration’s stance on British sanctions on Israeli settlements. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-02: Isaac Herzog calls Donald Trump Israel’s number one friend Israeli President Isaac Herzog called Donald Trump Israel’s ‘number one friend,’ seeking to mitigate diplomatic tensions despite underlying friction regarding Middle East policy. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/isaac-herzog-calls-donald-trump-israels-number-one-friend ### 2026-09-13: President Herzog calls India a true friend of Israel Israeli President Isaac Herzog praised India as a ‘true friend’ after receiving Rosh Hashanah greetings from Indian President Droupadi Murmu and other top officials. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/president-herzog-calls-india-a-true-friend-of-israel --- Cite as: Israeli diplomatic relations with international leaders.
