While the injuries were not serious, the incident prompted the Procura della Repubblica di Ragusa to open an investigation into the causes. Authorities summoned the company responsible for previous renovations, and the mayor ordered the closure of the building’s first floor after firefighters declared certain areas unusable. The incident raised concerns regarding the aging state of Italian school infrastructure, noting that a significant portion of the nation’s school buildings are several decades old. This event was noted as being similar to a previous collapse at the same institute seven years ago. Following technical investigations and safety interventions, the school has since reopened. Although the municipality returned control of the building to the school administration, parents have requested further clarification regarding the specific safety measures taken in classrooms and the inspection status of other local schools. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-09: Vittoria school reopens after ceiling collapse and safety inspections The Istituto Francesco Pappalardo in Vittoria has reopened after safety repairs following a ceiling collapse that sent two students to the hospital. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vittoria-school-reopens-after-ceiling-collapse-and-safety-inspections ### 2026-10-06: Istituto Pappalardo ceiling collapse in Vittoria triggers investigation Two students were injured when a ceiling collapsed at the Istituto Pappalardo in Vittoria, Italy, prompting a judicial investigation and renewed debate over the country's aging school infrastructure. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/istituto-pappalardo-ceiling-collapse-in-vittoria-triggers-investigation --- Cite as: Istituto Pappalardo ceiling collapse in Vittoria.
