Sources: 4. Developments: 2. Italian Serie A clubs have experienced a difficult start to the Champions League season, securing only one victory in their first eight matches. Early results included a 4-1 win for Como against Leipzig and a draw for Roma against Fenerbahce, while Inter and Napoli suffered losses to Real Madrid and Arsenal. In subsequent rounds, all four Italian participants faced defeats. Inter lost 3-4 to Club Brugge, Napoli fell 1-3 to Villarreal, and Como was defeated 2-3 by Feyenoord. Roma also suffered a loss to Real Madrid after leading 3-1 until the 58th minute. The crisis has deepened following two matchdays, with the four representative Italian teams accumulating only 4 points in total. Analysts have noted that this performance is significantly lower than in previous seasons, when the top four Italian sides typically secured between 18 and 21 points by the same stage of the competition. Within Inter Milan, individual developments continue amidst the team’s struggles. Striker Ange-Yoan Bonny is seeing increased interest for a starting role following strong performances as a substitute, while Carlos Augusto is involved in contract renewal discussions. Additionally, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is preparing to face his former club, Shakhtar Donetsk, in an upcoming fixture. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-17: European football clubs face defensive and competitive struggles European football faces turbulence as Italian clubs suffer consecutive Champions League losses and FC Porto struggles with a defensive crisis following injuries to key players. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/european-football-clubs-face-defensive-and-competitive-struggles ### 2026-10-16: Italian clubs struggle in Champions League opening rounds Italian Serie A clubs have recorded only one win in eight Champions League matches, suffering six losses and one draw in the opening two rounds of the tournament. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/italian-clubs-struggle-in-champions-league-opening-rounds --- Cite as: Italian clubs performance in Champions League.
