Newer social engineering tactics have also been reported, such as a case in Camerino where a victim was targeted by a fake payment alert via SMS, followed by a phone call from an individual posing as a member of the Carabinieri. The scammer convinced the victim to transfer funds to a “secure account,” resulting in a loss of over 30,000 euros.
