Developments: 2. The Italian education system is facing multifaceted legal, economic, and structural challenges. Legal scrutiny has emerged regarding the rights of students with Special Educational Needs (BES), specifically concerning the obligations of examination commissions to provide consistent procedures and compensatory tools. Economic disparities are also a significant concern. Data from Eurydice and the OECD indicates that secondary school teachers earn approximately 33% less than other tertiary-educated professionals, a gap that widens for early childhood educators. This has contributed to the emergence of a ‘new poor of knowledge,’ where qualified educators face economic instability and migration for work. Additionally, there are growing concerns regarding digital integration and student welfare. While students expect widespread technology use, educators report that investments have prioritized hardware over pedagogical integration. Policymakers have also called for schools to better address student psychological distress and the rising costs of educational materials, which threaten equitable access to study. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-23: Italian education faces challenges in digital integration and student support Italian teachers report a lack of effective digital integration in schools, scoring the balance of tech and traditional methods 5.5/10, while leaders call for better psychological support and student rights. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/italian-education-faces-challenges-in-digital-integration-and-student-support ### 2026-10-18: Italy education system faces legal and economic challenges Italian education faces dual challenges: legal debates over examination procedures for students with special needs and significant wage disparities for teachers compared to other tertiary-educated professionals 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/italy-education-system-faces-legal-and-economic-challenges --- Cite as: Italian education system challenges.
