Managed assets in Italy have seen significant growth, surpassing the 1,000 billion euro threshold. By the end of 2025, total assets managed by banks, investment firms, and asset management companies reached 1,083.4 billion euros, a 20.1% increase from 2022 levels. Although assets dipped slightly to 1,073.2 billion euros in the first quarter of 2026, the sector remains robust, with asset management companies (SGRs) managing over 800 billion euros.

Parallel to this growth in managed assets, total household deposits reached approximately 1,163 billion euros as of May 2026. However, the real purchasing power of these savings has grown by only 4.7% when adjusted for a 23.6% inflation rate over the last decade.

Consumer defense association Adusbef reports that the cost of managing current accounts has risen by 23% over the last decade, with average annual costs increasing from 82.2 euros to 101.1 euros. When including stamp duty, the average expenditure reaches 117.6 euros. This rise is largely attributed to variable expenses such as transfers and payments, which grew by 34.2%, and specific costs for instructions, which surged by 62.6%.

Wealth distribution remains geographically uneven. Lombardy holds approximately 20% of all deposited wealth in the country, with Milan accounting for 90.8 billion euros. In terms of per capita liquidity, Bolzano leads with approximately 30,400 euros per resident, while Crotone reports the lowest average at 9,700 euros.
