Political figures in Calabria have begun addressing potential or official candidacies for mayoral positions ahead of upcoming municipal elections.

In Cosenza, Forza Italia city councilor Michelangelo Spataro addressed rumors regarding a mayoral run. While not officially declaring his candidacy, Spataro expressed openness to the possibility provided a ‘large political and civic coalition, united and compact’ is formed around a shared administrative program.

In Catanzaro, Francesco Pitaro, a member of the Democratic Party, officially announced his candidacy supported by the civic movement ‘Catanzaro Punto di Svolta’. Pitaro stated his goal is to restore the city’s regional leadership, specifically highlighting plans to develop unfinished port infrastructure into a hub for fishing, tourism, and leisure boating.
