Massimo D'Alema, former Prime Minister and head of the Fondazione Italianieuropei, expressed skepticism toward political primaries within the center-left, arguing they emphasize divisions rather than common ground. He advocated for programmatic unity to present a credible alternative to the current government and called for the European Union to increase its diplomatic weight amid what he described as a period of “confused and conflictual multipolarism.” On the center-right, Gianni Alemanno, leader of Futuro Nazionale, criticized the current coalition's effectiveness. He noted discontent in Sicily, suggesting the center-right has failed to deliver change from the national to the local level. Alemanno characterized Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s recent stances as essentially centrist and indicated that while his party seeks representation in the Sicilian Regional Assembly, the responsibility to initiate local alliance dialogues lies with Meloni. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-18: Gianni Alemanno criticizes center-right leadership in Sicily Gianni Alemanno of Futuro Nazionale criticizes the center-right's inability to drive change in Sicily and challenges Giorgia Meloni to lead on political alliances. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/gianni-alemanno-criticizes-center-right-leadership-in-sicily ### 2026-09-24: Massimo D'Alema calls for center-left unity and warns of global instability Massimo D'Alema criticizes center-left primaries for fostering division and calls for programmatic unity in Italy, while warning of global instability driven by US and Russian geopolitical shifts. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/massimo-dalema-calls-for-center-left-unity-and-warns-of-global-instability --- Cite as: Italian political coalition internal tensions.
