Reports evaluating Italian smart cities have highlighted different regional leaders based on varying metrics. In late September, a study by the Rome Business School ranked Trento as the smartest city to live in Italy, citing its performance in energy efficiency, urban mobility, and air quality.

By late October, the City Vision Score 2026-27 report identified Bologna as Italy’s smartest city for the second consecutive year, awarding it a perfect score of 100 points. This index, curated by Blum and Prokalos, evaluated nearly 7,900 municipalities across categories including governance, environment, and citizen participation.
