Italy has held a series of summits focused on the growth and strategic direction of its space industry. An initial event in Torino, organized by the National Association of Young Innovators, presented a position paper aimed at enhancing sector competitiveness, encouraging investment, and leveraging national expertise in satellite applications and new space infrastructures.

Subsequent discussions led by the Parliamentary Intergroup for the Space Economy expanded the scope to include national strategy and global challenges. These meetings, held in locations such as Ancona and Rome, focused on developing strategic European capabilities in orbital logistics, including orbital transfer vehicles, in-orbit servicing, and reusable reentry infrastructure.

The initiative has progressed to the third edition of the States General of the Space Economy, held at the Farnesina. Organized by the Parliamentary Intergroup for the Space Economy and led by Deputy Andrea Mascaretti, the event involves diplomats, public administrations, and industry leaders. Discussions include roundtables on national space strategy, Italy’s role in global challenges, and international cooperation opportunities, specifically highlighting the role of private companies.

The summit underscores the strategic importance of the space economy for Italian foreign policy. This development coincides with Italy preparing for several international leadership roles, including the Presidency of the European Space Agency Council for 2025–2028, the International Astronautical Federation for 2026–2028, and the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space for 2026–2027.
