The Italian national baseball team has officially qualified for the WBSC Premier12 2027 tournament following a 5-0 victory over Germany in the final decisive match of the qualification group in Barcelona. This win follows a previous loss to Spain and secures Italy a pathway toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, as the highest-placing team from Europe or Oceania in the Premier12 earns a direct spot.

In the shutout against Germany, the Italian team recorded 16 hits. Pitcher Giacomo Taschin delivered a standout performance in his major national team debut, pitching four innings with seven strikeouts and zero walks. He was supported by relief pitchers Sireus, Fandino, Bocchi, Bassani, and Claudio Scotti, who secured the win by preventing a German comeback. Under manager Francisco Cervelli, the team has maintained a strong recent record, winning 14 of their last 17 official matches. Federal President Mazzieri credited Cervelli and his technical staff for revitalizing the team environment, noting the qualification follows other successes such as winning the Haarlem Baseball Week.

The qualification campaign began with a 4-3 comeback victory against Colombia. After trailing 3-1, Italy scored three runs in the eighth inning to reclaim the lead, aided by a line-drive double from Gabriele Angioi. Manager Cervelli specifically praised the team's determination and the performance of the bullpen, including Matteo Bocchi.
