Italy faces a competitive deficit in freeride skiing as the nation prepares for the 2030 Winter Olympics. While Italy has a traditional history in skiing and snowboarding, the freeride discipline has not established a significant presence in the country’s sporting landscape.

This gap was evidenced during the 2026 FIS World Championships, where Italy had no representation among the 17 participating nations. This stands in contrast to other nations, such as Switzerland, the United States, China, and New Zealand, which have already begun investing in the discipline.
